Dear Guests:
I hope that the new year is going well for you. Sadly I lost my father at the end of last year. However I have had so many letters telling me what an inspiration he was to them, and how he helped them that it's been quite uplifting. I feel if I have done as much at the end of my life then it will have been worth it. So I am focusing on all the good my father did (he also used to run my yoga classes - yes he was still teaching yoga into his eighties!)
I don't know what it's like where you are, but Garrett county winters bring lots of snow. And being so close to the ski slopes (they are 10 minutes from the B&B) we get a lot of skiers. And why not make winter your playground? here you can ski, go tubing and snowboard. Bobbi and Pete (our innkeepers) always have a pot of hot soup ready for you when you come back from a hard day of skiing. Then if you want to relax those sore muscles you can always get in the sauna or Jacuzzi or get a massage. The ski slopes are usually open till mid-or-end of March, so come and make your own winter memories.
This being February they are getting ready for the Annual Polar Bear Dunk. This is when some crazy people cut up the frozen lake and go for a dip. It's on February 23rd this year if you want see for yourself. It is for a good cause though - they raise money for the Special Olympics.
Winter is also a time for introspection and I am using this time to plan the health retreats I am starting in the spring. The first one is scheduled for April 4-6, 2008, and I hope to have one every month if there is sufficient demand. You can check out the details on our retreat page. I think I have got together a fabulous group of women to help me conduct these retreats and I am so looking forward to sharing our knowledge.
Another thing I started last year (after thinking about it for a long time) was greening the B&B. This is about using earth friendly, non-toxic products for cleaning at the B&B (and at my own house). I want our guests to be able to breathe a little easier when they come here - we do have cleaner air being in the country, but I wanted the inside to reflect that too. There are more details about this on the website and I will be talking about how you can green your own home at the health retreat.
I am still offering a free two night mid-week stay for our soldiers who have served in Afghanistan or Iraq. So if you know someone who has recently served in Iraq or Afghanistan and deserves a free two night stay at the B&B please email me their particulars. I will select two soldiers every month for as long as our soldiers are there (I will need proof of their service). I hope for their sake that peace breaks out soon, but I am honored to able to show support for our brave men and women in this small way. My friend Linda who has a dog sledding company (yes there is a dog sledding company in Maryland!) said that she would offer free dog sledding to whoever was selected for the free two night stay - so that's an extra bonus.
One of our guests described Haley Farm as "chicken soup for the traveler". We couldn't agree more. We want to be the respite from peoples' busy lives. Here you can unwind, enjoy the beautiful scenery, and allow us to pamper you with great food and hospitality. So if you are in need of a little indulgence, why not head out our way. Even two days here will make you forget the traffic and bills you left behind.
Much love and happiness to all,
Kam Gillespie
