The River walk is a 4 hour experience but only a 45 minute flat walk to a swimming hole (and a 45 minute walk back). The Bears Den Walk is also very popular and an easy 2 hour experience (only 20 minutes walking each way) to an interesting rock formation. The wonderful guides at All Earth Eco Tours have hiking excursions for people of all ages and all levels. For those who want a more strenuous workout the Savage Mountain and Mount Nebo are uphill hikes to mountain tops. Your guide will teach you about local plants, animals, and the environment, as well as local history and provide information on the Deep Creek Lake area. Groups can customize a day of adventure with kayaking and hiking. Guided hiking tours start from as little as $10 per person.
For those who want to explore the area by boat, the kayak tour on the Savage River is simply Maryland's finest eco nature tour surrounded by vast unbroken forests and state parks.
